Screened in Russian, with English subtitles
Phenomenology begins with a simple demand: describe experience as it is lived. Founded by Edmund Husserl in the early twentieth century and further developed by thinkers including Martin Heidegger and Maurice Merleau-Ponty, it asks how we structure time, memory and perception as part of the human experience. Andrei Tarkovsky’s 'Mirror' (1975) turns to these same questions through film. Abandoning conventional plot, it follows a life as it is remembered, in fragments and associations.
Join us this Thursday for a screening of Mirror, in Russian with English subtitles, as we open our series on phenomenology.
