Since the public release of OpenAI's ChatGPT in late 2022, Artificial Intelligence has taken a prominent place in public discourse. Since then, the media has confronted us with the technology's promise and peril. Just last week, various AI executives called for a slowdown in AI development, warning that, at the current pace, AI could lead to human extinction by the end of the century. While doubts about the legitimacy of these claims persist, the ever-growing prevalence of AI in daily life warrants a critical examination of the direction of AI development.
